I'll take a look in more detail at some of the suggestions made in the replys. It would seem likely that a coin collector has done this as well. There are more of them than there are of us, so maybe I'll do some browsing of coin sites to see what has been documented.

It may turn out that a more powerful portable may be the way to go. I have no real problem with the method I use currently on the laptop except the laptop is too large and heavy. Maybe one of the HP or Palm moblie devices will turn out to the the answer.
