While what you say is true, the war is not being exclusivly fought 'over there' there have of course been terror attacks elsewhere in the world since 9/11 in Madrid and London and recently a terror plot uncovered which was targeting flights between the UK and USA. I of course sincerely hope we never see anything like 9/11 or 7/7 again.
