Which is better? A proxy bid or a large bid? E.g., Suppose a chip is at $50 and I figure I can go $200 on it. Is it better to use the proxy bid system or to make a bid at $200. Anybody have any experience between the two methods? My sense is that if I use the proxy system it may induce a race to $200 but that if I put in a big bet it may discourage someone...or maybe I should just go back to my desk and prep for my 8:30 class.
