You will find a few Javascript routines that will do what you want. They are easily circumvented by turning off Java in ones browser though. Matt Sessums could help you with those.

I was recently looking at a few CGI script collections and have a faint memory of one that would do exactly what you want to do. I don't remember where I saw it, but if you do a web search for "CGI Scripts" or "Perl Scripts" and then browse the listings you find I'm sure you will run across something that will help you.
