New Members, including myself do only get bits and pieces of the "Great Slab War", even after reading some of the back issues of the Club newsletters. A coherent recap form members involved would be greatly appreciated.
I recognize that the issue is near and dear to all members hearts. I haven't taken the anti-slab pledge mainly because the issue seems to be dead at this point in time.
Personally, since the chips I collect are not an investment, but a passion, I would never buy a chip I couldn't hold in my hand. And, frankly, regardless of grading or value attributions, a chip is only worth what I'm willing to pay or trade for. I get great enjoyment out of the hobby and meeting new people at the yearly conventions (pretty good Poker series, too.). I think slabbing a chip amounts to little more than destruction of that chip, but that is as far as I have gone in my thoughts on the matter.
These views are, admittedly, expressed from a position of ignorance. A convenient resource for researching the issue would be greatly appreciated.
