Sorry about this situation, but it is not at all surprising given the decline of service in the United States.
I am not a lawyer, but I know a little law. My opinion is that when the airline accepted your granddaughter as an unaccompanied minor, that they are legally responsible for turning her over to a responsible adult at the destination. They clearly did not fulfill their responsibility and I think that you have the basis for legal action against the airline.
I would not accept a token gratuity from them in consideration for your aggrevation. I would, instead, contact a lawyer to determine your rights.
