Bob, Though there ia an Apache Gold Hotel & Casino
in San Carlos...your plates come from a small joint
about 30-miles west of Loxahatchee, in the town of
Pahokee...where Joe Three Feathers and Mama White
Dove ran an illegas casono "Apache Gold" fronted by
Lansky. These plates and everything in the
casino were supposed to be dumped in Lake Okeechobee
back in '27, just before the big one came ashore.
I'm surprised Mark doesn't have that info in his
book, because Joe Three Freather's great grand
nephew opened a gambling boat many years later and
named it afrer Joe's sister Dixie who raised swamp
ducks to feed the Palm Beachers during the Winter
seasons. Apache Gold... never thought I would see a
plate from there, ever. I can't remember the exact
name of the gambling boat either.
Dixie...Dixie...Dixie something to do with a bird, I
think. <g> How many pieces did you say there were?
