Sounds like a fun puzzle! It looks to me like this red chip was cancelled with those large diamond designs. It is the first time I've seen a stamp like that.

What about the other side. Does it look the same? With a large scan of both sides we may be able to figure out what the lettering underneath says. Can you email me large scans of the center of both sides?
