I think that will lift the red pigment, too, which is in direct contact with the residue.
Since the piece is well-known by European collectors (and they're aware of the tape residue) I'll probably leave it alone and not mess with it.
The piece was in the CARO Collection for years, and if the residue didn't bother Christian CARO, why should it bother me...
