This is a story I had followed for a while. I fully agree that the child would have a better shot at a good life here in the US however, I for one cannot say it would be fair to keep the boy here. I understand his mother risked and lost her life going for freedom however, which father out there would rest for one second knowing his child was held in another country only due to those in the other country feeling it is in the child's best interest to remain in another country? What Mother would?
None.
What I can see here, having been thru a divorce and an international coustody battle is that this child belongs with his father. As long as this childs father is not some sort of proven nut case.
The best interest of a child ALWAYS lies with being with his or her birth family. To simply claim that monetary type reasons would call for the child to remain would not hold water.
Sure, things in Cuba stink, most of us agree with that and for the most part none of us would want to live there and many cannot understand why this father would want his child to be raised in such a place.
Well, this man might be quite happy with the country he lives in and that is fully his choice. I would want more for myself and my child but, this man is happy where he is. He could come to the US and live here by and through his amily, He knew he could come and live his life in our country and raise his child here but, that is not what he wanted.
If this country thinks it should begin to grab children and keep them here based upon the childs homelands issues, then I fear we are leaning towards being just like Cuba.
The father wants his child, the childs want to go home. Let him go then! This child might say he wants to be here in the USA BUT keep in mind, in Cuba this little boy has very few material items and here in the USA he has about every toy a kid could want. He has went to Disney and for the most part been given the world. What child out there can resist such things? Are children not know for the ease in bribing them? ?IE "Take out the trash and I will give you some Pokemon cards".
Well that sums it up for now, please excuse any typo's here, I am falling fast asleep at my keyboard but, just had to comment on this one,
Jeff
