MEDIUM RARE FIND- MEL
In Response To: Re: RARE CARSON FIND 1936 ()

On the way back from the Arizona Char. show we stopped in Hawthorne and visited one of the old timers that produced the "Capooch Club" chip recently being sold as "Rare". The red quarter maybe, but the nickel, dollar and five are in existance in numbers under 30 sets which maybe is medium rare. I did some trading and buying from the guy and have one of each "Capooch " for sale if you guys can help me decide what to ask. Nice olde 1932 issue that was used in Gerlach until 1952 when Mr. Capooch moved to Hawthorne to accomodate the Black sailors at the Naval Ammo Depot since other casinos would not let minorities gamble even they wanted to play Pai Gow , Sic Bo or Faro. He stayed open with these chips til 57' when the chips disappeared to guys like my old timer that had a few to trade. The 77 cent breakfast at Ariz,.Charlies was not available on Sunday so I had a $2.49 steak and eggs ...medium rare. It came with a nice plastic marking arrow in the steak and that I put in my display case to denote "medium Rare " chips like the "Capooch."
