Thanks for your post Joe. I'm happy to read that somebody supports my "crusade" (as it's been described) and who shares my opinion that one's integrity and honesty should be more important than hustling a chip for an extra buck or two by misleading unknowledgeable bidders on "rarity".
I wonder how some of these ebay sellers would describe a truly "rare" chip after they have watered down the term .... if/when they had one to offer? Would it be described as "super rare"; "incredibly rare"; "positively rare"? Everyone has heard of the boy who cried wolf story. This is exactly what is happening in the hobby. No one pays attention to some of these absurd "rare" chip descriptions anymore. "Rare" has become commonplace.
Intrestingly enough, I was looking at some ebay lots on "casino collectibles" last night. Very few of these offerings are tagged with the "rare" word. I wonder why that is? Some of the sellers are the same people. I looked under casino ashtrays .... same thing. No rarities over there... yet some hefty prices being asked. I skipped over to Jim Beam bottles... no "rares" there either among some expensive decanters. I guess only chips are "rare".
Seems to me, some ebay sellers ought to get their s - - t together, especially a guy named Joe from Vegas.
No need to follow-up with, "we've heard it all before Archie" posts. Thanks for reading this far....
