Today's note comes from The Republic of Singapore, an island on the tip of the Malaysian peninsula. It is a 1977 issue $500 Dollar note. What makes this note SO special is that I went to a flea market this morning and was talking to a dealer of American Coins and notes and asked if he had any foreign paper. He replied that he did have some somewhere and retrieved a large zip-loc back with some 'junk notes' and replied that it was all he had and didn't know anything about it. I was note prepared to be 'note shopping' as I did not have a book or a blacklight with me. After looking through his notes I found about 12 notes that were of low value but would fill a hole in my collection. I also found a note that was a real gem BUT I was unsure of the value or if it was authentic. We agreed on a price of $9.00 for the notes. I felt like the Singapore note MIGHT be a really good one but with out the book it was a guess. When I got home I graded it conservatively at VF and checked my latest book value. I was shocked to find it listed at $450.00! So I went to eBay and found 2 just like it starting at $399.00 $450.00. Not a bad return on a 75¢ note!! What a day! ENJOY…. I KNOW I WILL!!
