I used their website to make some room reservations a couple years ago with my credit union debit card. Two weeks ago tomorrow I got a call from my credit union telling me that the debit card was canceled because an online travel company had a security breach. Great! I had to fly to Kansas City the next day, and had planned on using that account for most of my purchases that weekend... A new card arrives in the mail last Wednesday. To activate it, I'm supposed to use it at an ATM, or call a toll free number. I try it at an ATM, and my old PIN number is no good on the new card. Great! I have to fly to Minneapolis the next day, and I can't use the card for any transactions requiring a PIN. I'm hoping when I get home this afternoon, my credit union can provide me with a working PIN.
Now the real beef I have is, the security breach at Hotels.com was, a company employee had a laptop computer with thousands of credit/debit card numbers on it. The laptop was stolen from his or her car. Why in the heck was any of that information on a laptop computer? Why in the world did that information need to be in a portable device? Who in the heck would need to be able to take that kind of information home with them? All I can say is, Hotels.com, never again.
