Katie; The seller has emailed me to tell me to the effect that "they are no longer available at the casino so they must be rare." He also said that he saw a similar chip earlier this month on ebay offered as rare, so he described his the same way. This is the flawed logic that escapes most ebay sellers. My reply to him was that I had no problem with his opening bid price... it was only his description. I asked if he had a truly "rare" chip to offer on ebay, one that litterally dozens of collectors were fighting over each other by submitting bids, how would he describe that chip, if he thought this Claridge chip was "rare".
In a follow-up very cordial email, he thanked me, said that I made some good points and now agrees that his chip is not rare.
Katie, this was the original table chip issued at Claridge. Tens of thousands were made for their regular rack. By no stretch of the imagination is this a rare chip. It may be obsolete, or no longer available.... but certainly not "rare".
