I fell for this one myself, and wanted to let the rest of you know not to be tempted by what appear to be antique ivory poker chips. Here are samples of what is being peddled on eBay by sellers (mine is from Georgia):
After I received them, I had serious doubts of their authenticity, so I wrote to Kenny Craig, one of the foremost experts on ivory poker chips (see his article in the current "Casino Chip & Token News"). Here's what he had to say:
They are fake garbage being made up on "flat grain" ivory stock. Some are scratched by hand and some are laser engraved. I bought one to see how the laser engraving looks under agnification.
It is round bottom as opposed to V shaped cuts in the old chips. Dale and I will not be assigning codes to these fakes.
