Oh, this horse is definitely still taking the world for a ride. Especially that guy who starts his stopwatch at zero, but doesn't know how many minutes have passed when little hand gets to the one minute mark. He just doesn't seem to want to count that first minute. Or the first year of our calendar.
It's really not that hard. The first minute is finished at the END of the first minute. The third minute doesn't start until after the END of the second minute. The calendar was not one year old until the END of the first year. An interval of 2000 years starts at the beginning of the first year and ends at the end of the 2000th year. We are in the first month of the 2000th year. The second millennium does not END until the END of this year. It's not rocket science.
But it might as well be to some people. Too many people. It's a very sad commentary on the state of learning in the world today. A few years ago I would have thought we'd come a lot farther than this.
Oh well. That doesn't keep me from collecting the chips. I like chips.
