Greg,
You've have my sentiments here. The McCarran airport started this with me regarding the Small Font / Large Font varieties and others. Not all varieties exists on all the tokens. So one could create a rarity by switching rings.
Same scenario with the El Cortez tokens. When they revised the tokens some still had the mispelling "LIMITIED" on a couple of the tokens and the others are corrected. Now start switching rings on these and you have some tokens that are scarce yet tampered with. Well what if the casino reorders and corrects the rings. Now we have two varieties corrected and uncorrected, but what of the token that was already correct???? Put a mispelled ring on it and now it's a rarity yet tampered with.
I guess it's really up to the collectors to make up their own mind with regard to the $10 Silver Strikes.
Least we not forget that the $20 Silver Strikes are also two piece(Bi Metallic) tokens.
Archie, forgive me on the use of the word scarce and rare here, as it shouldn't apply to tampered with tokens.
