Hi Dennis,
You pose several interesting questions.
I do believe that reeding could be added to a token. However, I think it would be more difficult to add reeding to a part reeded token as it would most likely be very difficult to get the grooves to line up correctly
Gold plating is an area that I believe would be probably easier to do than adding reeding to a token. As far as removing the existing gold plating on a token that would probably more difficult than adding gold plating to a token.
Unfortunately, my major concern is the simplicity of exchanging the outer rings.
The one Nevada Silver Strike that I know to exist with the "Limited Edition Collector's" ring is the McCarran Airport "Blackjack" SPADES token.
I had been wondering how long it would be before we started seeing the GENERIC outer rings like the ones on the Golden Nugget Las Vegas first two tokens which has ".999 Fine Silver" inscribed on both sides of the outer ring. This ring could be put on almost any pre revised token and would easily pass.
Maybe it's time for me to make another suggestion to the Gaming Commission regarding the outer rings. <G>
