While your land line internet connection can be hacked (i.e. usernames, passwords and other sensitve information), it takes a little more doing than what most people care to bother with.
However, if you are using a hot spot, you leave yourself wide open to very easy hacking. Ditto for a cell phone link. If you are going to try loging into say your ebay account, or your checking account on a regular basis, it is best to spend the extra money to get yourself an encryption system (minimum of 128 encryption).
These days it is best to play safe as there are more than enough scams to get your personal information, no sense in you broadcasting it everywhere!
After getting out of the intellengce serivce, I would not buy a computer with a modem for a couple of years as I was too overly cautious.
Also, do not place your telephone within 3 feet of your computer/modem. It works the same way as the line is always on, even when you are not talking.
Take it from somebody who worked inside the puzzle palace for three years and in the field for another 17!
