As some readers on this bb who purchased a few of
these sets from me (about early-1990s) would
remember what I said then is exactly what Bob just
said now. When Dinant folded, I was in the
right place at the right time and was very lucky to
have been able to latch on to some of these sets at
that time. I knew the 200.000BEF plaque was the
flag of Belgium and that the red plaque being the
U.S.S.R. What I did learn at the time was that the
blue flag with the 12-stars was the Euro flag. Thus
the reason for me coining these pieces with the name
"International Flag Series" when I first introduced
them to collectors both here is the USA and Europe.
One collector in Belgium who several of us know very
well, Monsieur Marc-André REYNCKENS, remarked: "I
can't believe I have to go to an American to buy
chips and plaques from my own country to add onto my
collection." It's been many years since I had any
of Dinant's plaques in my inventory, and with the
added information I learned from Bob's research
regarding quantity made...and considering what has
been fed to the oven, I think whatever is remaining
is a gift to us all. I know many casinos in the UK
had to destroy obsolete material the same way. Thus
when we find such pieces in limited quantity and of
higher-denomination as the Curzon House Club
plaques, we are again blessed by the chip Gods.
