Ohio Law Enforcement in North East Ohio held their annual Polar Bear Plunge Saturday into the chilly waters of Lake Erie. Well I have more sense than to dive into water with giant ice chunks floating in it, so I chose the PBP Texas Holdem tourney as an alternate way of donating for Special Olympics.
Turned out to be a great event. Only 64 folks signed up at $30 entry fee. This was the first time the Polar Bear Plunge used poker as a fund raiser. Tournament was a little rough around the edges, but the setting was a first class room in a nice lodge on the lake. Eight round classy table of eight somewhat classy players.
I think I was one of only about six players that was not Sheriff Dept.,State Highway Patrol, City police or detective unit. Pretty intimidating ( and may I add hard drinking ) bunch of folks.
Go figure, I caught all the breaks,if not the cards, for four hours and walked away with first place. Most of the funds went to Special Olympics so only four spots paid out. I took home $450, and owe it all to Ricky Pushkin as I used his personal chip as a card cover.
Thanks Ricky
