I went up to the Winstar Casino, just across the Texas-Oklahoma border on January 4 for the first time. I believe they've recently expanded their operations, and they've actually got a pretty nice spread up there now. Approximately 15 poker tables, which were busy, and probably 30-35 blackjack tables, of which 10 or so were not operating, and the rest were busy. Also a bingo room, and at least 2 restaurants (which I didnt try). All machines are coinless and paperless, all monetary value is stored in the players card while you play (must have one to play machines). They had a good crowd for the middle of the day on a Wednesday, although it was the day of the Rose Bowl. Lots of Texas fans there (myself included!).
Blackjack costs $0.50 to play. When you buy in to the game, they'll give you a stack of 50 cent chips, which most people leave next to the betting circle and the dealer takes one each hand. No hassle at all - but it can cut into your winnings, especially if you're a low-stakes player like myself.
Greg's ChipGuide lists $2 and $3 chips. I didn't see a single $2 while I was there, and every casino employee who I asked about them gave me a blank look. All the tables have the pink $3 Chipco, but no one (dealers or cashiers) would even consider selling me one. Only saw them being used as drop chips for the blackjack antes - I believe that money goes straight to the state.
Not much else around besides the casino. Theres a hotel a little ways down the highway access road, but other than that, not even a convenience store. The Chipguide lists the casino in Thackerville, but it must be out south of town, as I never saw much of a town anywhere around. It does close from 6am-8am every day, so its strictly a day destination. Overwhelmingly their business comes from Texas (by my quick license plate scan) and it's marketed heavily in the DFW Metroplex, which even the far southern reaches of are less than an hour and a half away. I'm not sure how much they've hurt the Shreveport/Bossier casinos, but there are a lot of competitive billboards from both places along the highway to and from DFW to Winstar.
Anyway, I only saw 3 of these yellow Chipcos while there - one for my collection, one trader, and the third had been written on in sharpie so I didn't get it. They're transitioning to these hot stamped 50 cent unicorn mold chips, which say "Chickasaw Enterprises". I have about 6 of them. I have >20 of the $1 Chipcos, but sorry no $5's. Also have a few of the new Eldorado $1's from Shreveport (used to be Hollywood).
Email me if interested. I have many other traders that we could include in a deal, but allow me a disclaimer: I turned 21 less than a year ago, so for most of my chip collecting life, I've had to rely on others (non-collectors) to get me chips. Thus, many of my traders are not exactly in mint condition, though I consider everything I have collectable. If chips with a little "history" aren't your cup of tea, you may not find something you like among the rest of my traders (though most of these Winstar chips are in pretty good shape).
