"Everybody wants to do their own thing; disregard past AMERICAN customs and traditions"

Our AMERICAN customs and traditions became what they are today only because there were those who were brave enough to depart from earlier customs and traditions. Life moves on and things change. Some of the old things still make sense and we cling to them. Some of the old things no longer apply and we must move on.

Remember that earlier in the United States of America:
o Women and minorities did not have the right to vote
o Slavery was legal
o Drinking alchohol was illegal
o There were "blue laws" that restricted commercial activities on Sundays

It seems silly that it was once like this, but it was. We have to get rid of the things that no longer make sense. It doesn't mean that we disregard all our customs and traditions, just the ones that we no longer need.
