I forgot to add that the Union Plaza was also built near the old railroad station that was located CLOSE to where the hotel stands. In fact the train station was moved to the back of the hotel.

There are some who claim the UNION name comes from this fact involving the railroad station. ie Union Station (downtown Chicago) If that explanation makes you feel good - O.K.; but the concept applied to bringing together men of different backgrounds from different parts of the country who had gaming as a mutual interst. How do I know this? Sam Boyd told me years ago.
