You guys have been the ones arguing that drug use hurts society so I asked who was hurt if I use a drug.
To know ask about teenage prostitution is not an argument agiants my position because I have not argued that teenage prostitution is not harmful.
I have little problem with laws which prohibit minors from engaging in activity which may be harmful to themselves (prostitution, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, working in a toxic waste dump) because I am willing to accpet that minors are not yet able to make their own decisions (we can debate at what age that should be). I am not willing to accpet the premise that adults can not make the decision to do something which is potentially harmful to themselves.
I think that addresses your first two questions.
you ask about A mother who is pregnantand wants to use herion and has the cash " whop is hurt"
This is a scenario where there may in fact be ample reason to believe that the preganant woman's use of drugs has a direct negative health impact on another (who is not free to avoid it). (I refuse to get into a debate about abortion so lets not even go down that road). I could be willing to support laws which make this particular activity illegal. However the fact that this case exists is not an argument for all drugs to be illegal for all people.
then you ask:
A police officer who wants a occasional hit on the crack pipe " who is hurt"
Answer the only person whop is potentially hurt by this is the police officer himself and he should be free to take that risk. Notice i said potentially because I don't believe that he will necessarily suffer any negative effect. Now if your question is about a police officer using drugs while he is working that is another issue. I fully support the right of an employer to set terms of employment. Clearly being high on drugs at the time you are supposed to be doing something else may not be the best idea. But just like most employers prohibit their employees from coming to work drunk (even though alcohol is legal) employers certainly can prohibit their employees from coming to work stoned.
