Thanks to all of you who responded. Looks like most feel it's OK to use a copy of someone elses scan for personal use.

There is a provision under copyright law which allows for "fair use", I believe this subject falls under that provision. However, I am not a lawyer and my guess is you couldn't get a dozen lawyers to agree or disagree on this.
