ARE 99% CORRECT. I won't buy a slabbed chip because I won't pay $9 or $10 for a $2 item.
I don't know who is doing the slabbing but I will accept your judgment that they don't know very much and thus their authentication and grade determinations are worthless, or at least worth a lot less than they are asking.
Also, perhaps our hobby is different from numismatics. There have been a few coins that sold for more than $1 million. What is our top price - about $35,000 so far? $1000 coins are not unusual. Perhaps there is not the need in our hobby for professional grading & authentication as there is in numismatics.
But should counterfeiters and doctorers invade our hobby as they have coin collecting perhaps our minds should not be so closed. One aspect of anti-slabbing might be to assist those who would be charlatans at some time in the future.
