... Larry. For the last two-and-a-half years of her life, my wife worked in the Advancement (Fund Raising) office at Dominican College in San Rafael. At the beginning of this school year, the President of the College prepared the draft of copy for a "millennium" fund raising mailer, which was given to Sandy to put in final form.
As feisty as ever, despite her declining physical health, when she read the copy, she marched right into the president's office and told him, essentially, "No matter what everyone else is saying, it is disgraceful for a mailer from the president of an educational institution to contain a factual error like this. I will not let this go out with any reference to the "new millennium" starting January 1, 2000."
Only mildly astonished (Sandy had been a work study student in his office while she was an undergraduate at Dominican, so he was somewhat used to her plain-spoken manner), he thought about it, then replied, "You're absolutely right." The copy was rewritten to refer to "Year 2000" rather than the "new millennium".
