These chips are said to have been made for use by "High Rollers" - specifically Lavere Redfield. According to Kling's book, Mr. Redfield was one of the really high rollers in Reno. He was allowed to play roulette for $100 streight up bets at Colbrandt's Flamingo Club. The story goes that Mr. Fitzgerald had chips made for Mr. Redfield's use - the values being set where he wanted them. Mr. Redfield was one of the biggest landowners in Reno. There was an earlier post about the new Stations Casino being built on the Redfield Regional Center - named for Mr. Redfield. He was a very interesting guy - neat Reno history stuff.
