I was googling and came up with the fact that a lane is a dead end street. I assume with all the building going on, Bannie Lane was extended and renamed Bannie Ave. I also found that Avenues all run in one direction (east-west, I think) while street run perpendicular (north-south).

I would bet that Bannie Lane was, in fact, renamed Bannie Ave.
