I recently made contact through Classmates with an old friend from elementary school circa 1951. She said she'd taught 3rd grade for about 30 years and always read Otis Spofford to her classes. She said Otis reminded her of me.
I told her..."Otis Spofford reminded you of me? I never heard of him. He must have been a truly great guy with all the attributes like filial love, fidelity, courtesy, cleanliness, comradeship, etc...I have so many! I'll bet he had lots of really great friends, right? I'll check around and see if I can get a copy of either the book or the movie. They did make a movie didn't they? Was it an epic or something like the Natural with Robert Redford? Who played Otis, Gary Cooper? Jimmy Stewart? Nawwww, not Rodney Dangerfield, surely you jest.”
I'll order the book and see for myself, thanks.
I may join Steve in whining after this.
