Exactly how many reserves did you see in this year's Club Auction David? I count a total of 4 out of 221 lots.
Now, before you begin to "kick up an almighty stink" regarding the Club's policy to allow you to bid on your own auction lots, let's remember that the purpose of the auction is TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE CLUB. Another difference between the Bruce Landau Memorial Auction and many others (particularly on eBay), is that for lots valued at less than $1,000, the seller is unable to protect himself (or herself) with a minimum bid. Keep in mind, David, that if you wind up winning an auction that you've submitted, you pay a 10% buyer's fee, a 10% seller's fee, and you get your own chip back.
My guess is that if we did away with the policy of allowing submittors to bid on their own lots (thereby protecting the values), we'd lose a whole lot of submittors... which is something we DO NOT want to do.
So let's not stir up an issue that could only be detrimental to our organization.
