Marv and Gene; Very interesting thread developing. "Gaming Purposes Only" I would think would be an excellent phrase to challenge regarding silver strike gift shop offerings. As for specific silver strikes not in the machines, which prevents collectors from completing their sets ... I personally challenged Trump Marina when they were showing specimens of their Airplane Series in the window of the silver strike machine, when in fact the machine was only paying out Trump Castle classic car series tokens. The slot supervisor met me at the machine after requesting an explanation from the attendant. I explained that this was deceptive advertising if I could not win the tokens that were being displayed. He disagreed, saying that they were worth the same cash-in value as the airplanes. Had to go to the Casino Control Commission booth on the casino floor and filed an official complaint. They visited the slot machine with the supervisor and a slot attendant and ordered the machine shut down until all the castle automobile tokens were removed and replaced with Marina airplanes. A similar situation was challenged at Trump Plaza when the New York series first came out. The machine showed all the New York scene tokens, but was paying out in state seals. The explanation was that due to the "heavy collector demand" (at that time) the New York Series supply was temporarily exhausted. To make a long story short... that machine too was shut down for quite awhile until the right tokens were filled. (Don't know why they simply didn't just change the tokens in the window to match the tokens in the hopper.) Unless an official complaint is filed, the casino will simply take the easy road. On the other hand, I've found several casino's to be very liberal with their exchange policy. (I think that's what it is a policy... rather than a regulation) Some will do it, others won't.
