My current A.C. New Issues Newsletter takes Tropicana to task for their overly restrictive policy towards chip collectors. In fact, Bob Mera and myself have filed an official complaint with the NJ Casino Control Commission. Trop thinks it's cute to issue chips out of their poker room, which requires a player to be seated at the table and to buy-in, in order to have the "privilege" of purchasing their product. No other business in the world would manufacture a product for a customer (chip collectors) and then restrict the cusomer (chip collector) from purchasing their product. Why even bother to manufacture a product if you are going to refuse to sell it to the customer? Hell, poker players don't care if they use bottle caps as long as they can cash them in. (Right Gene?) Poker players don't care about these "special edition chips...... collectors do! Oh, I know that there are some poker players who also collect chips. But why should a collector who is not a poker player be required to play a game he/she knows nothing about in order to purchase a stack or two, or three or four stacks, of a new issue? Yes, Trop did have a limited number of chips for sale at one of their roulette tables (limit ten chips per person). That was good for the local guy or gal who wanted one or two for their collection to show both sides, and a few traders. It certainly was not worth the many trips from North Jersey, New York, Pernnsylvania, Delaware or Maryland and Virginia to come to Atlantic City's Tropicana during the week to pick up chips for other collectors who couldn't make the trip on a work day and then be limited to ten chips...... until the roulette table allotment ran out.... at which time they were only available in the poker room. Tropicana ought to take a few lessons from other properties in town such as Hilton and Harrah's, both of which have set up tables on the casino floor to accomodate chip collectors..... their valued customers. Generally speaking, collectors buy these limited edition chips, not players. Wake up Tropicana!
