Ken,
One of the things that I love about this hobby is that it is constantly evolving. New discoveries are made every day and old information is corrected with new information.
Based on what you say has happened, you have an excellent opportunity to play a role in improving the collective knowledge base contained in the guides that we all use every day.
You also have an opportunity to help each of your fellow collectors--not by discussing your perceived shortcomings of James' book--but by letting us all know which chip you're talking about so we can each add to our knowledge of chips.
Is the chip you were looking for even within the stated scope of chips that the authors state they are covering in the book?
Can you post a scan or a description for us?
