Actually there is a greater than normal security risk because you will be connected all the time with a constant IP (Internet Protocol) address. With a conventional modem and a dial up account you are assigned (in the background) a new IP address with each login.

To me it is a worth it risk. It has changed the way we use the computers in my house. The internet is just another icon.
