Authentication of Harold's Gun Club Fractionals

Over a year ago I posted a message on this board about fractional chips I believed to have been used at Harold's Gun Club. This information was met with mixed reveiws. Some people agreed with this attribution, some disagreed.

Recently I e-mailed Michael Knapp and Allan Myers about some new added evidence I'd received that substantiates the fact that these chips were indeed used at Harold's Gun Club. Here is a portion of the chronology of e-mails:

===========

Dear Michael and Allan...

I hope this e-mail finds you both well and looking forward to the upcoming convention. Because of some issues in my business, this may be the first convention that I miss since I entered our hobby in the mid 1990's.

I don't have Ernie's e-mail address, so I hope you'll pass this e-mail to him also.

As you may remember, I found these chips a couple of years ago: {See scan which was imbedded in the e-mail below}.

Based on the entry on pages 116 and 119 of your 1998 edition of the Gaming Table, I believed these chips to be from Harold's Gun Club. I also thought this to be true based on the fact the outer H and C were is a similar position to their locations on the Harold's Club roulettes and also because the larger inner GC was in a similar position to the GC on the Gun Club's roulettes.

I have recently found added evidence that these chips were indeed from Harold's Gun Club. Here is the sequence of events.

On May 18, I got the following e-mail from Ross McCammon:

=====

Hi Terry:

I recall you were selling Harold's Gun Club 10c and 50c and caught some flack about it from the chip board. I had a pair that I had bought some time ago from a former Reno resident.

I sold them on eBay a week or two and a former GC employee emailed me about the auction. Three generations of his family worked for Harold's Club.

He told me that the chips were from the Gun Club and that I had the location wrong in my auction. Campiglia's book says the location is Pyramid Lake, which is wrong. The location was on the Pyramid Hwy just past Sparks. I think that is what is says in the CR.

Take care,

Ross

=====

I e-mailed Ross back and asked him if he could give me copies of what this person said and his name. This is the response from Ross on May 19, 2005:

======

Terry:

The name is William Arnold.

=======

Here are Mr. Arnold's 2 e-mails to Ross:

1st Message:

hi from reno. the gun club was located behind sparks, not at the lake. I was a former employee of the club. 25+ years. Long gone. it is actually between sparks and spanish springs. only 1 mile from my house. thought you would like to know.

2nd Message:

Hi again,
pyramid lake is about 27 miles out of town. It is on the pyramid lake Indian reservation. the only thing there is a little town called Sutcliff. Totally Indian. It would have had an address on pyramid hwy but it was county. Now it would be sparks. hope you didn't take me wrong. we are a 3 generation Harold's Club employees. My son was the restaurant manager also of the Nevada club. we have been collecting the stuff for years. good luck with your auction.

=======

I then e-mailed Ross again and asked him for William Arnold's e-mail address. Once I received it, I e-mailed Mr. Arnold directly. This was my e-mail:

========

Mr. Arnold...

Your name was forwarded to be my Ross McCammon. You e-mailed Ross recently about 2 chips he was selling on eBay.

I also have some of these chips and I am hoping your might be able to give me some information on them. I am interested as to whether you remember them being used at the Gun Club.

You help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much...

Terry Lazarus

======

I included a scan of both sides of each chip in my e-mail to Mr. Arnold. This was his reply:

======

Hi from nevada
sorry it took me so long to answer you. they were for special events that were at the gun club. it is only, or I should say was only up the road a couple of miles from my house. they have destroyed it and are now building houses there. not many of the chips left. you should get a good price for them. give me a hollar if you have any more questions.

willie

Shortly after hearing from Mr. Arnold and sharing this info with Michael and Allan, I received the following e-mail form Michael Knapp:

========

Hi Terry, I'm sorry to hear you'll miss the convention this year. We'll miss you!

Thanks for your provenance on the Harolds Gun Club chips. Based on your research, we'll certainly be adding them to TCR11.

Regards,

Michael

Since this post I've learned that I will be able to attend the convention...at least through Friday. Hope to see many of you there.

If you'd like to add either or both of these chips to your collection, they are available between now and Friday (when I leave for Las Vegas) for $59 each + $2 P&H, $61 total. If you'd like both, the total is $115, P&H included. Earliest orders will receive the chips in the best condition.

To order either or both of these scarce fractionals, please send me an e-mail. I accept PayPal if you don't mind adding a couple of dollars for the PayPal fee.

Looking forward to the convention...

Terry
