The gentleman's name is Sol Kirzner and yes, he is from South Africa (my mistake). He recently outfitted the waitresses with new uniforms that look like the same kind of uniforms the waitresses wear at the Out Back Restaurant chain, which does remind me of Australia. Mr. Kirzner came into town with all kinds of plans of granduer spending for the aging Resorts International property. He was going to spends millions of dollars and completely remodel Resorts and convert it into a "must-see" attraction in Atlantic City that would rival his property in Paradise Island.... then he reneged on the deal. The property was to be renamed "The Beach Club". He hasn't spend a dime on the property since he purchased the place from Merv Griffin.... although I did see some sheetrock walls up last weekend where the California Pizza Kitchen used to be. I hear that he will be converting the "Griffin Club" into a public lounge and bring back live music. He bought the King David nursing home behind Resorts surface parking lot and kicked out all the old people and then blew up the building earlier this year. No construction activity there either. I guess all of the other operators in town are waiting for Steve Wynn to begin spending his money... and then it will be catch up time. Wynn is the only one who is forging ahead, amongst lots of criticism and lawsuits by Trump. (Trump by the way wanted to build a golf course where Wynn's planned casino is to be built.... some ratable that would have been; yawn). I've yet to see a shovel full of dirt turned over for all the announced new casino construction that was supposed to take place by now. Seems like all the casinos in town are simply acquiring more and more land and displacing residents. Hilton recently purchased the old Atlantic City High School site. One of Hilton's spokesman said that Wynn doesn't appreciate property values in town.... "in five years, let's see what has appreciated more in value, the old high school site or the paintings in his Bellagio casino......"
