A follow-up from my post of last week...
Received my order for 3 James Bond chips from the new movie "The World is Not Enough". Series of 3 chips in "limited" edition of 3000 each. Made by Paulson's Authentic Products division for a company called Inkworks. Inkworks includes one chip per box of trading/collector cards made for the movie. (The chips are available thru at least one card dealer without buying chips too.)
Manufacturing specs, for those interested: 44mm in diameter, same as oversize Baccarat-type chips, except NO hat & cane mold. The outer rim is plain; no mold design at all. The inserts are standard Paulson 5/8" sxs in watermelon red & metallic gold. Center inlay is prox. 33mm diameter, smooth finish, with unique hot-stamped number on reverse inlay.
What's interesting is that the inlays are centered on each chip with inserts aligned at the 12:00 position. Turn each chip over, and the reverse inlay is medal-aligned and centered. It would appear that this production run was handled with the extra care needed to center each inlay, in relation to the inserts, then medal-align the reverse. I don't recall this precision in other Paulson chips, though I haven't checked a couple of other Authentic Products chips that I have. While Chipco has been aligning their chips from the start, this is a new production technique for Paulson, I think.
