I was trying to keep a zipped lip. ;-) Yes I remember the Knick and some of the connections including the restaurant owner.
The law about the name Saloon, was overturned. I may be older than you, and remember the bar called "The Saloon" which was the reason someone with nothing better to do, complained. I think if you look at Hooligan's the sign says saloon on it. One of the old Superbars.
Another quaint little Milwaukee license deal. There were only a small number of bars (saloons?) that were allowed to have full fledged liquor stores on the same premises.
I used to manage Landmark Lanes on the East side... for the non-cheese heads, that's the hippie stomping grounds, location of Hooligans, and generally where the kids go first when they move out of the house. Lots of fun people.
Meanwhile back at the chip talk. I hit rummage sales, and other than a bunch of plastic chips, I still haven't found one old casino chip, or possible Illegal. I keep digging, and some day, maybe? I also used to know some guys that were "connected" in town. (no not me thank you very much) And I never heard a word about poker games or casino chips. One would think that some of the old hotels had games in the back room. I suppose I could ask questions, but then, it isn't healthy to ask questions! <G>
(ps I am selling my complete AC collection on eBay)
