The 3 places may have re-opened but by 1959 they were all gone. The A-G who shut them down was Parnel Donohoe who after Kennedy's victory was named as one of the AUSA (and we other "boys") gave him much pain for his action. At the Franklin Hotel a medical doctor had a suite at the top of the hotel; he was allegedly employed by the Homesteak and his sole responsibility was to keep the ladies of the night clean. In the '59 fire the good ladies were heroines, providing help to those caught up in the fire. Their efforts resulted in articles in Time and Newsweek but the publicity made it impossible for the state not to act to shut them down and shut them down the state did.
