We have had a problem in the past with ants getting in the house and tried different sprays, traps, etc., which were a temporary solution at best. The problem with the sprays is they only kill the ants that you can see. They don't do anything for the million or so other ants still in the nest.

This year I tried the above product which I purchased at my local nursery. You apply it by sprinkling some on the nest (if you can find it). Then lightly sprinkle it around the outside of the house. The ants will pick it up and carry it back to the nest so it kills all the ants. I bought a 2.25 lb bag of it for $6.49.
