For the past few days at least, anyone with an AOL email address has not been receiving email notification when a reply was posted to one of their messages.
I contacted US LEC, the company I lease this server from and got this response:
Greg,
we are having an ongoing problem with AOL banning email from various hosting servers of ours. We are working with AOL to get the bans lifted as soon as possible. In the meantime, we ask for your patience and will see if we can find a way to get your email to AOL in spite of the ban.
I asked them why AOL would do that, and got this response:
There were spam complaints from some AOL customers. I don't know whether those complaints were accurate or not (email From: and Recieved: headers can be spoofed, and users can make mistakes in reporting spam), but AOL apparently thought they were, and banned email from some of our servers. We consider that to be an overreaction on their part and are attempting to persuade them to lift the ban.
Talk about ironic!
