Thanks for replying, Allan. I'm not sure the analogy with the stock ticker is exact here. What TCR is reporting is a parameter that indicates a range of values, not a specific 'quote' as you might see on a ticker display. I agree the + and - work for a single number, but think that when applied to a 'Value Code', they would usually be interpreted as a modifier, not an indication of direction of change in value.
I appreciate the need to put explanatory material in the front of a reference like this, but suggest that something be considered other than the + and - with no further explanation on the reference pages. The up and down arrows sound good to me. I assumed they weren't used because they weren't in the typeface you used for the book. Maybe give it another look for the next addition?
