There are two sets, Barry, one in a red box and one in a green box. The tokens inside are different. Red box seems to be much scarcer. Another easy way to tell the difference is that the green one has Caesars Palace as the USA represesntative and the red one has Desert Inn.
The tokens were supposedly the equivalent in face value to US$25 each when issued. All are silver and apparently are different sizes and shapes to make for a more interesting set. Because of this, I doubt that any of these were ever used in a machine. Probably redeemable in playable chips or tokens when you got to the casino, as are "gift chips".
These are frequently listed individually on eBay but don't seem to sell well except for the two Las Vegas tokens. I presume the Caesars Palace can still be turned in for $25. The foreign tokens seem to go for $5-10 if they do sell.
I talked to one coin dealer who bought the sets and removed the european tokens for casinos still operating and turned them in for the current appreciated value in foreign currency. He said it was profitable if you were going to visit the casino anyway. He liked the German casinos; the Baden Baden token was 100 (DM, I guess). Now that most are using Euro currency, I don't know if this would still work.
