Re: Final installment - New Chip finds

Jim R,

I agree. He can post his articles where ever he wants.

The point where I disagree is the use of Greg's Board in an attempt to get people to subscribe to Prodigy, just to read HIS few articles(messages) he has posted there. It reads to me more of an attempt to promote PRODIGY Service and not the hobby(but that's my opinion). I honestly believe his sincerity that he believes his article is benefiting the hobby by only being posted there, and maybe it is for the 70+ collectors on Prodigy.

Yes, I've seen the comparison attempts to show some sort of relationship between a Prodigy posting and other peoples magazines and guides. It just doesn't fly!

First of all Prodigy Service isn't a world wide service. It's only available in the US and Canada. This is a VERY LIMITED user base. Magazines, Books and Guides are available to be sold anywhere in the world usually. How is a person here on Greg's board expected to sign up for Prodigy if they live in another country. Another aspect is the people who live in the US where Prodigy doesn't have a Local Access number, these folks have to incur the additional long distance bill to obtain access.

Anyone WORLD WIDE with Internet access has the ability to read any message left here on Greg's board or any WWW BB.

The problem I have is that he posts the message here, about this or that post on Prodigy. Also, chastising his fellow members for not posting messages there. If he wants to let his fellow members know about his post, he could E-Mail them and suggest that they post messages when they online.

This sort of posting is very frustrating for the new collector and old collector to understand if they are new to the hobby and new to being on line. These people may be highly tittilated by the message title "NEW CHIP FINDS" only to be dissapointed that they can't read what this is all about unless they subscribe to Prodigy.

If someone wants to write a message doing an outright advertisement for Prodigy, or asking the members who are here to post there I wouldn't have any issue with that.

Even in his original message he states: "When I made the inital request to get the board active again there were over 40 posts to it. Today or I should say this morning there were only 5."
This isn't much of a positive aspect to draw new subscribers.

Believe me, I know how frustrating the on line services can be trying to get members to post messages -- remember when? (being very carefull here)....:>)

I do hope that Prodigy continues to go on and on and on. I was there for many years myself, and did a lot of cross posting between services for others.
