Rene,
You make some very good points about a number of issues. Some I agree with & others I don't. I'll go over them one at a time & give you my thoughts. I'll put what you said in quotes & then reply. I'm sure I'll take some heat for this, but, as people who know me can tell you, I don't hide behind a keyboard &
would say the same things to someone in person just as easily as on this Board. For those who think this should be on the "Club" Board........All I can tell you is that the thread started here & this is where I will continue it. First of all Rene..........
"David is a great friend of mine. I think he does a good job when he has the time"
I think time is the key word in what you said. One thing I have noticed with people in this hobby is that it seems we ALL have very little spare time. Not just the people like myself who own a business & do chips on the side, but, people who are retired seem to be just as busy. I don't think that some of the new Board members took into account how much time would be involved & they are now feeling the strain trying to juggle their own lives along with being Board members. Maybe it's time to see if some committees can be set up to take some of the strain off of them. One thing that really needs to be looked into is the Clubs future & online Computing. We have one Board member who has a Web site & NO mention of the Club anywhere on the site! I would be more than happy to be on a committee dealing with online Computing...........
"I think we should do more to actively recruit members and get our logo out there."
You are 100% correct & getting the word out right here online would go a long way in getting new members. Next time you are checking out chip Web sites of people you know are members take notice of how many don't even bother to mention the Club! Even having a logo or mention of the Club on eBay or a few smaller Web sites is just cracking the surface of what we could be doing. There are multi million dollar Web sites here online that if contacted just might be interested in this hobby & if nothing else might at least put a mention of the Club on their sites. We are talking about Web sites that get thousands of hits a day!
"I think also that the national club should be able to overrule local clubs on certain issues."
I believe that is already the way it is, but, I do not know for sure...........
"I also think we should do more thinks to raise money for the club. A auction in the club magazine like bill had in his would be perfect."
I agree here too Rene, more money could be raised. This is where committees come in again. While I'm mentioning that again, I should point out that committees are great, but, ONLY if the Board would have an open line of communication with these committees. With ALL the Board members having Computers & being online that should not be a problem.
"a program where dealers would donate a certain small percentage of their club sales towards the club promotion."
If I remember correctly, David had said something about a "Dealer program" before he was elected. I have not heard anything about that since then. While I am on this subject let me point out that there are Dealer/Collectors & Collector/Dealers along with a few who are strictly dealers. Of course if the hobby was to show very little profit for the strictly dealers then they would move on to the next big "craze", the Dealers/Collectors would be on the fence. The Collectors/Dealers which is the group I'm in along with yourself, Archie & a number of others would still be collecting if we never sold another chip. Speaking for myself I spend a LOT more money buying obsolete $5 Nevada chips for my personal collection than I could ever dream of making selling chips.
"Don't even get me started on the local club"
I won't get you started on the local Chapter, but, you asked me a week or so ago why I don't ever go to the meetings. When they were on Wednesdays I was there every meeting. Then because of politics it was moved to Tuesdays which was the ONLY day of the week I could not go! I won't go into it any further, but, Jim Perlowski & Jerry O'Neal know what I am talking about. I'm not blaming anyone, just stating the facts.
"A lot of people hate Steve Cutler, why I have no clue.
Because trop issues only 100 of their $25 chips. I can name many more places who do that."
Other Casinos DO issue chips where only 100 are made. The BIG difference is that Steve Cutler has the Tropicana's "ear" & is in a position to let them know that releasing the $25 chips in bigger numbers (at least 500) would benefit everyone involved from the hobby & Casino all the way down to the dealers & collectors. Jim Perlowski made a very good point the other day when he mentioned "collectors mentality". People at LEAST want to have a CHANCE to have a certain item, with an issue of 100, of course very few do. I could no doubt sell 30 or more $25 chips from the Tropicana if they made enough & I was able to get them. As it turns out I get anywhere from 1 to 4 chips & there is not enough to go around. People think I sell the ones I get on eBay to make the BIG bucks. The only reason I sell them there is because I don't want to pick the 4 or less people who are going to get them!
"He created the Hall of Fame Museum. Everyday between 2000-4000 people go through it. To look and stare and the collectibles. There is not information about the club there. Its been open for over a year now. Steve has offered on several occasions. That should be our #1 source to get new members."
Something is VERY wrong with the statement above. I don't know who is pulling who's leg here, but, I can't even imagine that the Club would not furnish Steve Cutler with as much promotional material as he needed for the people who walk through the Museum! I (and I'm sure others) would very much like to hear the complete story on this..............
"Hey Andy how do you like the new shirts?"
I think the shirts look great, good luck with them. Maybe I'll run into you at ComDex this week.....................Andy - Las Vegas
