First - remember that this is FIRST - the amount withheld from the prize pool for the pokerroom staff is exactly that...the staff. Yes, dealers are included in that but their portion is decided after taking care of the staff and all of the 'downs' - time spent at each table - is divided for each dealer's share. If a dealer didn't deal the tournament, they are not entitled to any of the tip.
Second - if you give a tip to a tournament director, he/she keeps it.
Third - if you leave a tip for the dealer, the tournament director/s normally take 35% off the top of that tip and the rest of it is divided up between all of the downs and all of the dealers.
Four - keep in mind that if you don't tip, you will eventually end up with dealers that don't strive to give you the best of their efforts. The good ones go somewhere else and you are stuck with the new break-ins and the slackers.
Five - Tipping is a part of poker, like it or not, it goes with the industry.
