I wasn't doing well in math in the 8th grade. The teacher made a deal with me. If I could write down every number from 1 to 1,000,000 I would get an A for the year. I spent two weeks trying. I think I got to somewhere in the 5 digits. Gave me a real appreciation for scale and range and magnitude. I got a C in his class, and went on to get As in high school. Numbers are our friends. (Or is that, we should number our friends? Come here, I want to write a big "1" on you! ;-))
